Graham Baldwin, President & Chief Executive Officer
Graham Baldwin was born in Ilkley and educated at Oxford and Sheffield, all in England where he taught for seventeen years before becoming an immigrant to Canada in 1983.
Since then he has served in three eminent schools -Brentwood College School as Head of English and Housemaster (1983-1986), Collingwood School as Headmaster (1986-2000), and Southpointe Academy as Chief Executive Officer and Headmaster (2005-2012). He has also been CEO of the Canadian Rugby Union, International Ambassador for Setagaya Gakuen, Tokyo and President of Cherwell Education Strategies Ltd.
He has held high office in the Canadian Independent school world, serving as President of the Canadian Association of Independent Schools, President of the Independent Schools Association of BC, Board Secretary of the Federation of Independent Schools Associations of BC, Vice-President of the Pan-Pacific Association of Independent Schools, and Member of the Education Marketing Advisory Bureau of the Federal Government of Canada.
A highly-regarded educator, Mr. Baldwin has been a guest speaker at the American Headmasters’ Association, the Pan-Pacific Association of Private Education, the Anniversary celebrations of eminent schools in China (#10 School in Suzhou, The Liaoning Province Shiyan High School, and The High School Attached To Hunan Normal University) and the Yuelu Conference of the Government of China.
Celebrated as an innovative, successful leader, Mr. Baldwin led both Collingwood School and Southpointe Academy from humble beginnings in poor facilities, to #1 Rankings in British Columbia, and new, modern, purpose-built facilities. He also created the Diploma in Independent School Management, used to prepare potential independent school leaders and the KEY program, which enables students with special needs to succeed in school and life and has been widely adopted in BC.
Mr. Baldwin joined The Westside Schools as President and Chief Executive Officer in April 2013 and created the Miniversity(tm), a unique, re-imagined high school in 2016
Mr. Baldwin believes that all children can succeed when parents and excellent teachers work together.
Christie Berkey, Principal
After graduating from the University of British Columbia in English Literature, Psychology and Education, Ms. Berkey began her teaching career in the independent school system. For seven years, she taught Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 3 and Math, Arts, and English as a Second Language in Grades 4 through 12. Having joined The Westside Schools in its very early years and being instrumental in its growth, she became Principal in 2014 since when she has created the school of happy excellence we all desire.
Galyna Volyanska, Administrative Principal
Ms. Volyanska was born and raised in the Ukraine. She earned degrees in Linguistics, English Language and Literature and Education, all at Odessa State University. Since arriving in North America, Ms. Volyanska continued to study avidly, learning about Canadian Literature and Education at Simon Fraser University, Technology in Education at Kennesaw State University, Georgia, and the University of Melbourne, Australia. Ms. Volyanska has taught for 32 years and is an exemplary educator and mentor.
Amanda Da Silva, Dean of the Miniversity
Born and raised in Vancouver, I studied at The University of British Columbia (UBC) obtaining degrees in Human Kinetics and Education, followed by my Masters in Educational Leadership and Administration. With 17 years of meaningful work experience in education, I understand the diversity of educational needs and know that passion and purpose are unveiled when our uniqueness is honoured. Family and career are two important pillars of focus in my life. My life goal is to develop world-class educational solutions to real world educational challenges. I enjoy many hobbies which include reading, hiking, traveling, sports, yoga, and meeting new people to learn about their life paths and aspirations.
Naomi Park, Executive Assistant, Office of the President
Born and raised in Seoul, Korea, Ms. Park became an immigrant in Canada in 1997. She was an English teacher and student counselor for a few years after graduating from Chung Ang University, Seoul, Korea. Her major was Literature and her main interest was in Education. During the first few years of living in Vancouver, she was a Director of IABC, a student placement agency in Vancouver downtown. While she was raising two boys, she studied ECE and worked as a preschool teacher for two years. She began working at The Westside Schools in 2012 as an Administrative Assistant, being promoted to the position of Executive Assistant to the President & CEO in 2014. She is enjoying her career to its fullest.
