The Foundation Years Program (FYP) comprises Grades K-3. This is a teacher-managed Program that concentrates, in a warm, engaging atmosphere, on ensuring the students develop very strong, secure, foundation skills, particularly in English and Math.
In these grades, students are introduced to a greater variety of teachers while still overseen by a homeroom teacher. The curriculum established in the foundation years continues with the addition of information technology, mainly in the form of coding.
The Middle Years Program (MYP) comprises Grades 7-9. The curriculum here is arranged to allow students to proceed unconstrained by such artificial barriers as age and ‘grade level’. Each student belongs both to a homeroom and to a cross-graded house teams.
The Miniversity is The Westside School’s response to the needs of senior students who aspire to university studies. We know from the constant cries of the university Presidents and Faculty that too many students arrive ill-equipped for the demands of university.
Engaged learning for our students need not end until 5:45 pm and may begin as early as 7:30 am. From 7:30 am to 8:15 am and from 3:45 pm until 5:45 pm, we operate our Super Curriculum. This is a series of courses with voluntary enrolment that extend and enrich our regular curriculum.
Our Global Program provides opportunities for our students to cooperate and engage with many of their international peers. Possibilities include both short and long term visits, collaborative projects across the curriculum, and hosting guest students.
