About Westside’s Basketball Program Director, Mr. James Blake

James Blake served as the Director of Basketball Operations at UC Irvine 2015-2017. During his tenure at UC Irvine, he helped the basketball program win a Big West Conference title and a birth to the 2017 National Invitational Tournament NIT.

From 2010-2015 Blake helped Simon Fraser University transition into the first international NCAA team while he served as head coach in Burnaby, B.C. His team led NCAA Division II in four categories in the 2014-2015 season, including scoring at 104.2 points per game.

Blake was associate head coach at Columbia College in 2009-2010 after serving as an assistant coach in the Big West Conference at Cal State Northridge from 2007-2009 where he helped The Matadors win a Big West Tournament Championship and an automatic birth in the NCAA tournament.

He was associate head coach at Cal State Stanislaus from 2005-2007, an assistant at Idaho State in 2004-2005 and served as an assistant at his alma mater, University of Victoria from 2002-2004.

Blake began his coaching career at St. Michael’s University School in Victoria (2001-2002) right after playing professionally in England (12.0 ppg, 4.8 apg) for the  Coventry Crusaders.

James lives with his wife Maria, and daughter Lyla, in Yaletown, Vancouver. He is passionate about giving people the opportunity to play high-calibre basketball in Canada.
