Emergency Preparedness Drill
Please note: no SuperC on this day.
The safety and welfare of our students and staff are our highest priority. To provide The Westside School an opportunity to practice emergency response procedures, all Students, Faculty and Staff, and Parents will participate in a School-wide emergency preparedness drill on September 27, 2019 at 2:45 pm.
Please be advised that students will be dismissed at 3:00 pm on this day. There will be no SuperC clubs on this day.
At 2:45pm, your child will drop to the ground, take cover under a table or desk, and hold on. After that the Faculty and Staff will direct the full evacuation of the schools.
You are required to practice reunification procedure:
Please come at 3:00 pm to pick up your child
First come to the Request Gate (Parent Check-In Gate) to request the student
Fill out the Student Release Form
Proceed to the Reunion Gate (Student Release Exit) to meet your child and sign them out. (The Map of the site is attached).
You will not be allowed back into the building for any reason.
If the child is not picked up within an hour, they will be escorted to the City of Vancouver Disaster Support Hub Location (Roundhouse Community Centre).
On September 27th, we will be escorting them to David Lam Park at 4:00 pm (behind Roundhouse Community Centre).
Kindergarten to Grade 9 has Parent/Teacher/Student conferences today. School runs as a half day.
TERRY FOX RUN at The Foundation Years Centre
K to 7 in Terry Fox Plaza at 2 p.m.
Our annual Terry Fox Run will take place this year on Friday, September 13th, from 2:00 p.m. till 3:00 p.m., at the Terry Fox Plaza.
Students, parents, faculty and staff are invited to join our event to run, walk or cheer on our students.
Due to student numbers, the run at the plaza will be for students from Kindergarten to Grade 7.
Our Grade 8 to 12 students will do the run during their PE lesson.
A running circuit will be set up around the Terry Fox Plaza. The run will last approximately 30 minutes.
Please make sure all students come to school wearing their PE uniforms and running shoes, and do not forget their water bottle.

We look forward to running for Terry and all those people affected by cancer.
Meet the Teacher Night is on Thursday, September 12th from 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
This will be a great time to strengthen our Westside community, meet teachers and other families, as well as learn about the upcoming courses/activities.
All programmes, Foundation Years, Middle Years, Pre-Miniversity and Miniversity, will run two of the same sessions at 6:00 and 6:45 p.m.
All teachers who teach at the respective campuses will be present for a faculty presentation at 6:00 p.m., and then again at 6:45 p.m.
If you have your children studying at different campuses, you will have a chance to meet the teachers at both campuses during either one of the offered sessions. Specialty teachers will be included into the presentations. After the presentation, parents will visit their child's classroom and have a conversation with homeroom teachers, subject teachers and specialty teachers.

This is an adult event only.
Childcare will be provided at the Westside Gym, 837 Beatty Street from 5:45 p.m. until 7:45 p.m.
Please note that this year, we will charge $5 per child which covers the childcare expenses including staffing and facilities.
The $5 fee will be collected by cash only when you drop off your child at the Gym.
If you need childcare, please fill out this CHILDCARE form by September 11th before 12:00 p.m.
